George Pullicino has been a Nationalist MP since September 1996. He is Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment.
George contested the General Elections in 1992, 1996, 1998 and 20003 in the interests of the Nationalist Party. He was first elected to Parliament in 1996 and has successfully retained his seat ever since. Following the Nationalist Party victory at the General Elections in September 1998, George was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Home Affairs and the Environment. In April 2003, he was appointed to his current post. Before his election to Parliament, George was Chief Executive of the Malta Council for Science and Technology.
George entered the political sphere at a relatively early age. In 1980, George was elected to the Executive Committee of the Maltese Christian Democrat Students Movement. He occupied various posts, including that of President, between 1984 and 1987. In 1987, George was elected General Secretary of the Nationalist Party’s Youth Movement (MŻPN) and three years later was elected President.
George represented the interests of the Nationalist Party Youth Movement overseas on several occasions. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a member of the Executive Board of the European Young Christian Democrats and was responsible for developing the Board’s policy with regard to the environment and to relations with European non-EEC countries.
George Pullicino was born in Sliema in 1964. He completed his tertiary education at the University of Malta where he read architecture, specializing in Urban Planning. He is married to Maria Lourdes and they have one daughter, Mattea. |
